OKBET MOTOR RACING | Rory Skinner has signed up to compete for American Racing

Rory Skinner

In 2023, Rory Skinner will become a permanent member of the American Racing Team, joining Sean Dylan Kelly.

Rory comes to us from the British Superbike series, where he has been on the podium many times and is now seventh in the Championship standings (despite missing the previous two rounds due to injury).

The Scottish rider has participated in Red Bull Rookies, the British Talent Cup, and British Supersport, where he earned the series’ youngest-ever winner, earning him a reputation as one of the UK’s brightest young prospects.

Rory, age 21, has already competed twice in this year’s Moto2TM World Championship when he joined the team for Silverstone and Austria as a wildcard entry, finishing in 21st place in both races.

The Team Owners, Avner Kass and Eitan Butbul “Rory Skinner’s impending arrival to American Racing is cause for great celebration. Our plan all along, ever since John Hopkins and Eitan took over his management more than two years ago, was to have him go on to other pastures, but certain unanticipated developments on the team have brought that day forward a little sooner than we had hoped. People say that everything occurs for a reason, and I believe that to be true.

“In order to make sure that talent from other championships is not neglected, we are glad that our team, with its exceptional staff, is in a position to take possible ‘risks’ in bringing riders across from alternative championships, which is less typical in today’s Grand Prix atmosphere.

“We also feel it is right to declare our intention to expand our present Team/Academy/Management type program by entering two American Racing teams into the European Moto2 Championship. This will serve as a stepping stone for young racers from the United States and Britain to gain experience and prepare for a future with American Racing in the Moto2 World Championship in Europe.

Finally, we’d like to extend our gratitude to Darren and Nigel from the FS-3 Racing team, who have been there for Rory the last two years and offered him the chance to ride with us for his two wildcard appearances this year.

Mr. Skinner, Rory “Happy to have landed a two-year contract with American Racing. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for British riders to get to live out their childhood goal of racing in the Grand Prix paddock.

“I’m excited to make my full-time Moto2TM debut with American Racing. Eitan and John have been with me for two seasons now, and they have always been supportive of my goals and dreams. I have no illusions about how competitive Moto2TM is, but the two wildcards we did earlier this year have convinced me that this is where I want to be. I appreciate everyone who has cheered me on over the last four years in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship paddock, and I will try my best to return their confidence in me. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with some very remarkable individuals, from my father, who ran me on a private Kawasaki in British Supersport, through Robin and Doug, who gave me a shot at Appleyard Macadam Racing, and, of course, my current FS-3 Racing squad.”

Racing Director John Hopkins: “When Rory joins our team, we’ll have a lot more manpower. We have understood from the start that he is a tremendous talent. To persuade people to recognize riders’ abilities outside of the Grand Prix paddock, he performed several wildcards with the team earlier this year. Despite never having ridden a Moto2TM bike before, he demonstrated his outstanding talent and speed.

“It’s a bit of a bizarre turn of events, but Cam’s decision to quit the championship has freed up a space for him in Moto2TM, so we’ve been trying to find him a ride somewhere in the class for a while. We anticipate a challenging beginning but are eager about the opportunity to prove ourselves with his addition to the team. The way Rory thinks makes me confident that he can compete, so we’ll give him every advantage possible to help him do so.

“Most significantly, I’d want to emphasize that Eitan, Avner, and I launched this initiative (the team, the school, and our management company) with the express intention of launching riders whose careers we’ve managed and helped shape into MotoGPTM. The fact that next year’s squad will include Sean and Rory, two riders we have managed for many years, fully exemplifies our commitment to action. Given the present state of the sport and the rider market, it’s probable that these athletes would not have had any other chance at competing in Moto2TM. We are really pleased with the structure we have established, and we want to continue demonstrating that riders from different competitions can be competitive and successful on the international stage, with the support of the team and its management.”
